FINAL SCORE: Pleasanton RAGE 0, Stockton Cargo 2.

Stanford Medicine Sports Complex: RAGE had a great offensive presence in the first half with lots of opportunities. Unfortunately, they fell short when they were unable to finish the ball into the goal.

COACH’S QUOTE:

Sarah Fawcett says, “It’s a tough result to take because for large stretches of the game, we executed our plan, controlled the tempo, and really limited Stockton Cargo’s opportunities. Compared to the away clash earlier this season, we corrected a lot of what went wrong. But at this level, switching off for even 30 seconds can cost you—and unfortunately, it did tonight. That’s the fine margin between competing and winning against top sides. Still, I’m proud of the performance, the fight, and the progress we’ve made. We’ll learn from this and keep pushing forward.”

HOW IT HAPPENED:

First Half:

  • At 40:55, RAGE had a free kick from right outside the box. It was taken by Trinidad Quiroz (15). It was blocked by the Cargo Defense.
  • 37:30, RAGE corner kick taken by number 9: Alejandra Melendez. The ball was sent high and out of bounds
  • At 29:06, RAGE got another corner kick. It was taken by Melendez again. The ball was kicked high in the air by Emma Fuller (20) and into the arms of the goalie.
  • 2:52, Trinidad Quiroz (15) had an amazing run down in front of the goal, breaking both teams from their struggle in the middle of the field.

The first half was a hard-fought draw. RAGE had a great offensive presence but did not finish the ball. Stockton Cargo was also unsuccessful with few opportunities due to RAGE midfield and defensive presence, ending the half with a 0-0 tie.

Second Half

  • 33:45, Stockton Cargo had a corner kick. The ball was headed toward the goal and saved by Peruer.
  • Cargo Goal at 25:14. It was scored off a long ball to the front of the goal and tapped in by number 23. 1-0 Stockton
  • 21:55, RAGE vaulted the ball over the goal in a high shot. One of their only ones in the half.
  • At 21:33, Peruer had a great save when she came out of the goal and slid to grab the ball from an opposing player’s foot before she shot.
  •  13:25, RAGE corner kick was taken by number 23, Kamryn Rosa. The ball went high and was shot wide.
  • Cargo goal with less than 2 minutes left in the second half. It was a long ball that was possessed and taken around the goalie for a wide open shot on the goal. 2-0 Stockton.

Similarly to the first half, the second half started slow. There was a lot of play in the middle of the field with little shots on either goal. Unfortunately, Stockton was able to take advantage of the opportunities they had to finish the ball, leading to their win.
